Things I’m asked: Do I need a CRM?

This is by far the most frequent question I get asked. CRM - Customer Relationship Management is about streamlining your sales process so you don't miss out on opportunities. It's also about having all your customer information in one place so that you can give them excellent service and keep their valued business. It doesn't matter if you are a one person band or have a team of 150 every business needs to bring sales in, stay in touch with them and keep their business, so yes you do need a CRM. The key thing isn't the technology it's about habit. If you get into a CRM habit...

Things I’m asked

I'm not good at blogging regularly, client work always takes priority and even when I try to allocate some Gingersnap time it gets postponed because an email comes in or the phone rings (or I have to do admin). I'm told by friends in my business sphere that there are 101 topics I could write about because of the work I do. With this in mind I've created Things I'm asked. This will (hopefully!) be useful snippets of stuff business owners really want to know (I know this because I've already been asked it numerous times). Will I do it regularly? I'm holding myself to account for all to...

Use tech to get time back

2017, where did you go? 2017 passed with the blink of an eye, I imagine I’m the same as many other business owners in taking a few quiet moments over the Christmas break to reflect on the year.  Last year I worked with quite a variety of clients including an electrician, commercial cleaner, florist, health & safety consultant, accountant, bookkeeper, charity, restaurant, logistics and a loans company. You might wonder what such a diverse group of clients could have in common : it boils down to productivity. Regular phrases I hear are: “we must be able to do this more efficiently” “I have to enter the same data in 4...

Zapier – it did make me happier

Zapier - Software Integration I stumbled on Zapier when looking for a way to automate pushing zendesk tasks into a team calendar. Zapier is to adults like Legoland is to kids. So many snazzy things to do! Zapier connects applications through zaps, zapping data from one piece of software to another. It's incredibly easy to set up a zap, there's a nice graphical interface that guides you through selecting your data source and where you want to zap to. In 6 minutes I had set-up a zap from Zendesk to my Gmail calendar, telling zapier to collect only the "tasks" not the "questions" from zendesk support tickets and push them into my...

Reducing the headache of managing multi sites

Many businesses face the same challenges, especially in the hospitality and catering sector. Fundamental tasks like managing staff across multi sites, rostering shifts, keeping track of accurate hours worked and logging leave requests can become a real headache if there isn't a solid process and platform underneath. Errors can be costly as this data is fundamental to profitability. Often hospitality businesses start with very small teams but grow rapidly and find that their excel spreadsheet for staff tracking becomes more and more complicated and time consuming, to such an extent that come payroll time a full day can easily be lost to administration. If payroll is outsourced there's also...
